Getting to know the design and construction process

So, you’ve signed up to build a home with Domain by Plunkett. Bet you can’t wait to get started. Here’s a quick run-down of what you can expect at each step of the design and construction process.

Key contact

It’s time to meet your New Home Liaison Officer who will be your main point of contact as we get your project underway and the necessary drawings and approvals in place. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Honestly, as many as you like.

Working drawings

By this stage we will have gathered lots of information about your block and produced home design drawings so that you can see what your new home will look like. We’ll also be giving you a range of contract documents to sign. You’ll need to pass these on to your bank or finance broker.

Pre-start

It’s time to choose your colours. And your taps, tiles, benchtops and basins. Not forgetting the kitchen sink, of course. You’ll make your selections during a series of meetings with our interior design consultant who will work with you to fine-tune your ideas, or come up with suggestions if you’re not confident where to start.

Approvals

Your selections will be contained in a final package of documents for you to sign before building gets underway. We will have also asked you for details of your loan and land title by this point.

Construction

Now it’s time to meet your Construction Client Liaison Officer, who will guide you through the construction phase. Again, feel free to ask as many questions as you like. We’ll also introduce you to your home Building Supervisor, who will be overseeing your build. First the slab goes down and then, once it’s had time to cure, the bricks arrive and the walls start going up. It’s exciting to see windows and doors added, to see plumbing and electrical services appear and the roof go on. You’ll have chance to meet your Building Supervisor on site and walk through what will soon be your new home.

Lock-up

Your new home is really taking shape now and is fully glazed and locked up to protect all the finishes inside, including the new ceilings and freshly plastered walls. It’s also time to meet your Building Supervisor and one of our tilers on site to discuss the layout of your tiles.

Final finishes

This is a particularly busy time as there are lots of trades on site installing your kitchen, bathroom and laundry cabinets, plumbing in taps and sinks, laying tiles, painting door frames and fitting your kitchen appliances.

Inspection

Before we give you the keys to your new home your Building Supervisor will meet you on site to do a comprehensive inspection so that any final items can be identified, attended to and then checked again.

Handover

Welcome home! Along with the keys to your new home, we’ll give you a handover pack that includes our Caring for Your New Home booklet, a maintenance form, and your Notice of Completion Certificate. Once you’ve had a chance to settle in, our After Care Sales Team will be in touch to guide you through the six-month maintenance period and make sure everything is exactly as it should be in your new home.
